I didn't want to go off topic on the Donovan's Reef thread, so here's a new thread. Lee Marvin certainly put out lots of entertaining cinema moments. And there's far more of his movies I've never seen...

Thanks everybody for all the opinions and suggestions, lots of good stuff to choose from. I'd forgotten about Gorilla at Large & was thinking he never did any horror or sci-fi. That one is about...

Re: What's your favorite Lee Marvin movie?

This is a tough question. It's just about a toss up between The Dirty Dozen and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance for me. Both are memorable tough guy roles that no one else but Lee marvin could pull...

Re: What's your favorite Lee Marvin movie?

Oh, yeah! Don't mess with Marvin. Everything he said sounded like a threat with his low, growly "dont f*^! with me" voice. Check out HELL IN THE PACIFIC, a two man show with Marvin and Toshiro Mifune...

It's not a huge role, but the physical and verbal sparing with John Wayne in The Comancheros always brings a smile to my face.

Re: What's your favorite Lee Marvin movie?

I'd say that's true.  The rest of the cast, led by Ryan and March, are superb.  Even an impossibly-young Jeff Bridges.  Marvin is good as Hickey, sometimes very good.  But that massive, difficult role...

I saw yesterday The Big Heat again on Antenna. Great movie with Marvin and Gloria Grahame in top form, the latter better than she was in the Bad and the Beautiful where she won an Oscar.

I would have to say CAT BALLOU. I think Jane Fonda has maybe the best line in the whole thing, but even that line is all about reacting to something HE says - "Your brother??!!"
